Freshly delivered

I live a very busy life, work 24×7 and hardly have time for myself. Well that’s the life of a journalist.

This morning I woke up to an almost empty refrigerator. As usual I didn’t have time to go shopping for grocery. So I headed out to the one nearest to my home.

‘Fresh Produce Groceries’ read the huge board on top. I have been a loyal customer here ever since I was a child. Back then I frequented this store with my mom.

I went straight for the fresh eggs which were supplied by the local farmers daily. Yes, new supply every single day!

I prefer duck eggs over chicken eggs because I am asthmatic. I have this allergy which surprisingly duck eggs do not trigger. My mother always bought the best duck eggs for me for breakfast.

I got 6 eggs for myself. Just then the delicious aroma of freshly baked bread caught my attention. They were placed right next to the eggs. It got my stomach growling and I could raise a few eyebrows around me. I continued lifting one item after another. Milk, apple juice, yogurt, veggies, and so on.

After I was done shopping I headed to the counter. The guy behind the counter was laughing. I turned to look back to see what was wrong but didn’t find anything. He was laughing rather uncontrollably then I gave myself a quick look in my phone camera.

I looked good for a man who jumped out of bed and headed straight to the grocery store without brushing his teeth. Then what exactly was wrong? The people around me were also giggling. The guy behind the counter walked towards me and I felt a little embarrassed not knowing what to expect.

Then he pulled out two little ducklings from my shopping cart. I didn’t see that coming. I said “Now that doesn’t happen everyday” startled at the sight. He replied jokingly “Want to cover this event for your news channel? You can title it ‘Fresh Produce Grocery’ just delivered some really fresh ducklings. We could use the publicity!”

I reached home with all my grocery items. I felt happy looking out the bathroom window as I brushed my teeth. Two little ducklings lay happily on a warm blanket basking in the morning sun. Yes, I decided to keep them.
