Fred’s surprise

It was little Jimmy’s birthday and his uncle Fred was running out of ideas to surprise him. No wonder he had just 70$ in his wallet.

Fred’s sister (and little Jimmy’s moma) Dona waited tables to make ends meet after Jimmy’s dada Bob abandoned them. Fred himself worked in a restaurant cleaning dishes.

It was 10 at night and Fred had to make a choice and quick. He was staring through the glass window of the most famous bakery in their town “The ‘Big’ One”. The rich often ordered their cakes there. Birthdays, weddings, anniversaries… they did everything!

The big and beautiful “Dark Fantasy” Black Forest Cake caught his eye. He looked at the price – 55$! He already felt a hole burning down his pocket.

Next to it he saw a tray full of freshly baked biscuits topped with fancy looking cream. The price too seemed affordable – 30$ for the whole tray.

Fred said to himself “I had warned myself that this place was for the rich only. But it’s little Jimmy’s birthday! How can I not do it for him?”

He then went in trying to look all rich and wealthy. The girl at the counter asked Fred “How can I help you sir?”

Fred replied “Give me the whole tray of those freshly baked biscuits topped with fancy looking cream”.

Right then another woman came running to the counter and said “Sorry to say but I saw that first! I hope you don’t mind but I really need them.”

Fred let her take it to avoid any possible mayhem.

12 at night Fred reached his sister Dona’s apartment. Little Jimmy was too excited to be asleep. His little blue eyes shone on seeing Fred. He came running to greet Fred.

“Happy Birthday little Jimmy! Uncle Fred loves you a lot!” Fred said carrying Jimmy in his arms. Jimmy began searching for his surprise but Fred’s hands were empty.

Dona placed her hand on his shoulder and said “It’s alright Fred! He’s just a kid. I am just happy to have you with us here!”

Fred hugged his sister and said “Surprise Dona!”

Just then a delivery boy entered with the most beautiful looking “Dark Fantasy” Black Forest Cake with little magical candles and pretty gravity defying balloons!

Little Jimmy stood there awestruck. The flickering of the magic candles reflecting a shine in his little blue eyes.

“There was no need for so much Fred…” Dona said with tears in her eyes.

“Anything for you and little Jimmy, Dona. Anything… After all you are my little sister too!”

That was one of the happiest birthday celebrations of little Jimmy!
