Depression and Addiction

What is Depression?

A mental health disorder characterised by persistently depressed mood or loss of interest in activities, causing significant impairment in daily life.

This is the definition as per Wikipedia.

What is Addiction?

Addiction is a brain disorder characterized by compulsive engagement in rewarding stimuli despite adverse consequences.

Also from Wikipedia.

But frankly speaking, the theoretical meaning and practical feeling are two completely different stories.

Sometimes for a person suffering from Depression it is easy to develop an Addiction.

Addiction to what? Now the answer does vary. Infact it can be anything.

Most commonly it is alcohol, smoking, drugs, or maybe simply an annoying habit.

But whatever be the addiction, it definitely harms the individual both mentally and physically because they don’t know where to stop.

In a depressed state an individual may continue with his addiction of alcohol, smoking and others because it provides him/her temporary relief and often overdoes it to a point where it begins to harm him/her.

It’s not just about alcohol or drugs. Even if you are sitting in a dark corner until you come out of your depressed state, that will harm you as well.

Maybe not physically but definitely mentally.

One life. Just one life at hand. That is what we have. That is what you have.

Never let anyone or anything consume you and your life. Let alone Depression.

Take a step. Conquer the bad feelings. Come out of Depression. Shine bright.

You are worth loving.

    1. I agree with you. The fight is very tough. But one needs to understand their own value and worth. This gives them an inner strength and will to defeat depression.
