Tranquil, now

Tuesday Photo Challenge – Tranquil

My residence is within a kilometres reach from the River Jia or Jhiya as some say.

The River Jia is a tributary of the Brahmaputra River.

Almost a decade ago the River Jia had taken a very fierce form. It became heavily flooded. This rarely happens.

The heavy flood had cut off our town and its neighbouring area from the rest of the state by engulfing the only highway that acts as a connection.

At that time God was the only hope people had. Finally the flood retreated. Many people from neighbouring villages were killed, houses destroyed, livestock lost.

Today the River Jia looks like this :

One word for this picture – Tranquil.

A view of the area near the river :

Looking at this calm river one cannot even imagine how powerful and mighty it actually is.

People still pray that it never takes its fierce form again.

As I spent some time looking at it from underneath the bamboo trees, birds chirping above, the cool breeze blowing, I could hear the gushing and swishing sound it made.

It was in a state of tranquillity.

Thank you for reading and have a nice day!

  1. Water can be a powerful and devastating force when out of control but when it is in its calm state, it is amazing.
