A Short Story – In response to multiple prompts

Scotts Daily Prompt Acute

Your Daily Word Prompt – Frigid

A sudden large engine roaring made me rush to the window.

I stood frigid as I saw a large crane and huge trucks.

In my big and beautiful farm a lot of people had started constructing skyscrapers. There were factories and vehicles with all possible pollutants present.

When did this happen? Maybe while I was out of town, busy with my health checkup. How could I not notice it?

My reports were quite normal but this vision in front of my eyes was about to give me a heart attack.

I couldn’t see my farm animals, my fruit trees, my food crops. They were all gone. But where?

“Lauren! Lauren!” someone shook me by my arm.

I tried to turn to have a look at that persons face when I fell down and an acute pain stung my knees. Not to mention the acute pain in my heart seeing my farm being taken without my knowledge.

“Lauren! Oh my God! Are you alright dear?”

I struggled to look up and there I saw Michelle, my neighbour.

“Oh Michelle! My farm’s being taken.” I said as I started crying.

“Lauren, cut down on that medication please. Plus no one’s invading your farm! Just look!” said Michelle as she pointed out the window.

Then it suddenly dawned on me that I was dreaming again. That farm is our family asset. Values more than our life.

By the way, the huge engine roaring was the loud generator my husband had switched on. And I was comfortably asleep in my own bed before I fell down.

Thanks to Michelle for lifting the curtain from my horrible dream. A vision sans reality.

Thank you for reading and have a nice day!
